US President Joe Biden has faced sharp criticism from within his own party, accused of dishonesty and corruption following his controversial decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden. Colorado Governor Jared Polis, a Democrat, publicly condemned Biden's move, calling it a "lame-duck decision" that prioritized family over the nation's interests.

"As a father, I understand President @JoeBiden’s instinct to help his son," Polis wrote. "However, I am deeply disappointed that he chose to put his family ahead of the country. This sets a dangerous precedent that could be exploited by future presidents and tarnishes his legacy." Polis, who endorsed Biden during the 2020 election and initially refrained from joining early calls for Biden to step aside after debate missteps, expressed concern about the long-term consequences of the decision.

The Trump campaign reacted strongly, issuing a statement condemning the pardon and accusing Democrats of "weaponizing" the justice system. Incoming Trump communications director Steven Cheung declared, "The failed witch hunts against President Trump have exposed the Democrat-controlled DOJ and radical prosecutors as abusers of the justice system. President Trump will restore fairness and due process when he returns to the White House with the support of the American people."

A White House official denied any connection between the pardon and Trump’s recent announcement to appoint Kash Patel to lead the FBI. "This decision is in response to the existing developments in this case, where political interference has led to a miscarriage of justice," the official stated.
