Kano government criticizes FG for sealing Emir Sanusi's palace.
The Kano State Government has accused the Federal Government of orchestrating the blockade of the Kano Emir's palace on Friday, December 6. Armed police officers and DSS operatives reportedly sealed off the palace entrance, creating tension in the area. Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II was scheduled to speak on tax reform bills before the National Assembly and accompany the newly appointed district head, Munir Sanusi, to Bichi. Despite the blockade, the emir conducted court proceedings at the outer palace and led Friday prayers at the Kano Central Mosque.
Reacting to the incident, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, Secretary to the State Government, voiced his dismay in a radio interview, attributing the action to interference from Abuja. “We were shocked to see police officers sealing the Kano Emir’s palace," Bichi stated. "Kano is peaceful, but a few individuals with support from Abuja seem intent on creating unrest. The emir was simply set to escort the new district head of Bichi for prayers and return. When we sought an explanation, we were told it was an order 'from above,' which clearly points to the Federal Government.”
Bichi reaffirmed Kano's commitment to maintaining peace and declared that the appointment of the district head stands firm. "No one will destabilize Kano. The emir will escort the district head to his post, and we are fully prepared to support him,” he concluded.
