Shehu Sani comments on the increased security at the Kano palace.
Shehu Sani, former senator for Kaduna Central, has expressed his views on the growing tension at the Kano Emir's palace. The situation escalated early Friday morning when heavily armed police officers surrounded the palace of the Emir of Kano, starting as early as 6 a.m. This move followed reports that Emir Muhammadu Sanusi was planning to appoint a district head for Bichi town.
In a post on X, Shehu Sani called for restraint, stating: “In the interest of peace, force, might, and power should be used with great caution in the ongoing Kano emirship dispute.”
Sani recalled the events of May, when former Emir Aminu Ado Bayero was deposed by Governor Abba Yusuf while he was absent, and Muhammadu Sanusi II was reinstated as the 16th Emir and moved to the Kofar Kudu palace. Bayero later returned to the state and settled at the Nassarawa mini palace, leading to court cases both in support of and against the state government’s decision.
