West Ham forward Michail Antonio involved in car crash
West Ham striker Michail Antonio was involved in a road traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex area. The Jamaican international is reported to be in stable condition and "conscious and communicating" while under close observation at a central London hospital. West Ham confirmed the 34-year-old forward’s involvement in the accident following the circulation of photos showing a damaged Ferrari.
In a statement, the club said Antonio is "under close supervision at a central London hospital" and requested privacy for him and his family during this time. "The club will provide further updates in due course," the statement added. The Essex County Fire and Rescue Service responded to the crash in Epping on Saturday afternoon, where they freed a man trapped inside his vehicle. "Firefighters were called at 1:02 pm after reports of a single-car collision," the service stated. "Crews worked to release the man, who was then handed over to the Ambulance Service by 1:45 pm."
Essex Police confirmed they were investigating a serious collision involving a Ferrari and have appealed for witnesses or dashcam footage from the public. Earlier, West Ham shared their "thoughts and prayers" with Antonio, his family, and friends. Antonio, 34, has been with West Ham since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2015, scoring 68 goals in 268 league appearances for the Premier League club.
