Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was left stunned by the sheer pace of Ferrari during the latest Formula 1 race weekend in China. The Mercedes driver admitted he was “gobsmacked” by how fast the Scuderia’s cars were, raising questions about the shifting balance of power in the 2025 season.

Ferrari Turns Up the Heat in Shanghai

Coming into the Chinese Grand Prix, Mercedes had hoped to close the gap on their rivals, but instead, Ferrari delivered a statement of intent. Both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz looked dominant on track, consistently setting blistering lap times and showcasing a level of straight-line speed that caught the entire paddock off guard.

Mercedes Left Playing Catch-Up

While Hamilton and teammate George Russell pushed their W16 to the limit, it was clear that Mercedes is still struggling to unlock the full potential of their package. The Silver Arrows have made progress since last season, but Ferrari’s engine power, aerodynamics, and tire management seemed to give them a significant edge around the Shanghai International Circuit.

“We’re giving it everything, but they’ve found something extra,” Hamilton admitted. “We need to go back and figure out where we’re losing time.”

Title Fight Heating Up?

With Ferrari flexing its muscles in China, the battle at the top of the F1 hierarchy is growing even more intense. Reigning champions Red Bull, led by Max Verstappen, remain formidable, but Ferrari’s resurgence could throw a wrench into the expected pecking order.

For Hamilton and Mercedes, the challenge is clear: find more speed, or risk being left behind. With the next race just around the corner, all eyes will be on whether Mercedes can respond, or if Ferrari’s red rocket will continue to dominate.
