Alex Iwobi: Balancing Football, Music & Ambition

Alex Iwobi: Balancing Football, Music & Ambition

Alex Iwobi is more than just a Premier League midfielder or a Nigerian international. As he approaches his 30th birthday, the Fulham star is steadily carving out a life that bridges passion, purpose, and performance — not just on the pitch, but in music, investment, and giving back.

The Footballer First

Iwobi’s current run with Fulham is among his best. He’s been key in their attacking midfield, delivering crucial goals and assists and showing consistency. Many analysts believe that Fulham sees him as central to their plans, to the extent that the club rejected a reported £21.5 million bid from Atlético Madrid in summer 2025. Fulham clearly value his impact both on and off the field.

That loyalty, combined with performance, gives Iwobi leverage and shows that a player doesn’t always have to jump at the biggest club—sometimes staying, building, and aiming for growth is its own statement.

Outside football, Iwobi has been making serious strides in music under his stage name “17” (his Fulham shirt number). His debut single, Don’t Shoot, dropped in mid-2024, followed by What’s Luv?, a track celebrating his African roots.

Most recently, he surprised fans with Hop Out!, a collaboration alongside Ramz and Odumodublvck, marking a bold crossover between music and football. This shows how Alex doesn’t shy away from experimenting or stepping into new creative arenas.

He’s revealed that while he’s had the music interest since he was about 14, he held off releasing tracks earlier in his career, especially during his Everton days, because he didn’t want anything to distract him from his football commitments. Timing, he says, matters.

More Than Glamour: Investments, Roots & Giving Back

An important part of Iwobi’s story is what he does off the field. He has property investments (guided by his uncle, Jay-Jay Okocha), a reputation for giving back, and an ability to stay grounded. For example, his Project 17 initiative (which ties into music and community) shows he’s thinking beyond just goals and assets.

He’s also open about his roots growing up in London, facing challenges, choosing paths, and now using his platform to inspire young people in Nigeria and across Africa. Whether it’s through music tackling issues like street violence (Don’t Shoot), or simply showing there’s more than one way to be a football star

What’s Next?

With solid performances, an expanding music catalog, and strong off-pitch ventures, Iwobi’s future looks interesting. Few things to watch:

  • Will he continue to balance both careers?
  • Will Fulham hold firm if bigger clubs come calling again?
  • Can he make a strong impact with Nigeria in upcoming AFCON tournaments?
  • How much more will he invest in philanthropy and identity projects?

Alex Iwobi’s story is one of versatility. It’s not just about taking shots; it’s about knowing when to take them, on the pitch and off. And for fans, artists, and young players watching, that balance might be the real legacy he’s building.
