Ebonyi governor orders arrest of six ministry of health staff over alleged theft of hospital materials
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has ordered the arrest and prosecution of six employees of the State Ministry of Health for allegedly diverting materials meant for the ministry. During a project inspection, the governor spotted a Toyota Dyana truck being loaded with registers, books, and other materials from the ministry’s warehouse. Unsatisfied with the explanations provided, further inquiries revealed that patient data registers, cards, and other documents were being loaded onto the truck without authorization and had already been sold without government approval.
Condemning the act on-site, Governor Nwifuru described it as sabotage against the government’s efforts to improve the health sector.
“Government-produced materials meant for rural hospitals, including registers, data entry forms, and hospital cards, are being illegally sold. This is a direct sabotage of our health sector reforms, and such acts will not be tolerated,” he stated. The suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
