Court acquits 50 alleged IPOB members of terrorism charges, says police didn’t provide evidence
The Federal High Court in Abuja has acquitted 50 individuals, including four women, accused of being members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and charged with terrorism.
On Friday, November 29, Justice James Omotosho ruled that the police failed to establish a prima facie case against the defendants. The judge upheld the defendants' no-case submission, stating that the prosecution provided no credible evidence linking them to the alleged crimes.
As a result, the court dismissed the three-count charge against the accused. The case, filed by the inspector-general of police under reference FHC/ABJ/CR/8/2024, alleged that the defendants had convened in a truck for activities related to terrorism. However, the charges were struck out due to insufficient evidence.
