Former Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh has expressed his support for the team's current interim manager, Augustine Eguavoen, who has successfully led the team to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

“Austin Eguavoen is a smart and capable man. I respect him greatly and fully support him,” Oliseh told News Central. “We worked hard together to bring glory to Nigeria. He’s an honest, decent person and my compatriot, so he has my backing.” The Super Eagles now face the challenge of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, the team has yet to secure a win in their group, managing three draws and one loss in four matches.

“The road ahead is tough, but not impossible,” Oliseh added. “We’re four points behind, and there are two or three other teams with the same points, making the task more challenging. But as Nigerians, we know it’s achievable. In 2002, when I was captain, we were five points behind, but we worked hard and made it to the World Cup. It’s not an easy task, but it’s doable.”
