R&B artist Trey Songz has been ordered to pay over $11 million in damages following a 2021 battery case involving a Maryland Capitol police officer. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, officer Tyrelle Dunn filed a lawsuit alleging he was injured while attempting to rescue his wife from Songz's hotel room at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas during the singer's 37th birthday celebration.
Dunn claimed that Songz had invited a group of women to his room, where his wife reportedly screamed for help, saying she was being held against her will. When Dunn intervened, he alleged that Songz and his security team attacked him, causing severe injuries, including fractured eye sockets and permanent scars, which resulted in him missing work.
Although Songz was cleared of criminal charges in April 2022, Dunn pursued a civil lawsuit. Songz did not respond to the case, leading to a default judgment. A Las Vegas judge awarded Dunn over $11 million for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and punitive damages. This judgment represents a major legal and financial blow for the "Bottoms Up" singer, who has faced other controversies in recent years. Neither Songz nor his legal team has commented on the decision.
