Kano anti-graft agency uncovers warehouse where N1bn FG’s rice palliative are repackaged for sale
The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Agency has sealed a warehouse containing 16,600 bags of rice, valued at over ₦1 billion, allegedly diverted from federal government palliative supplies and being re-bagged for sale. The rice, originally distributed during last year’s Ramadan and marked “Not for Sale” with President Bola Tinubu’s image, was discovered in a facility on Ring Road, Nasarawa Local Government Area. The operation, led by the agency’s Executive Chairman, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, took place on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
Rimin-Gado stated that the warehouse held 28 truckloads of rice that were being re-bagged into different brands for distribution and sale in local markets. One suspect has been arrested, and investigations are underway to identify others involved in the scheme. Describing the diversion as an act of corruption, Rimin-Gado condemned the illegal activity, emphasizing that the rice was meant for public relief during difficult times. He revealed that a re-bagging machine was recovered from the site and assured that the agency would thoroughly investigate the matter to prevent similar occurrences.
He noted that the operation was conducted with proper legal backing, including a search warrant, arrest warrant, and court order, and promised to follow all legal procedures to address the case.
