I hope the 60 Angels of Loyola Jesuit College continue to watch over me," says Kechi Okwuchi as she commemorates the 19th anniversary of the Sosoliso plane crash.
Nigerian singer and America's Got Talent finalist Kechi Okwuchi has commemorated the 19th anniversary of the Sosoliso plane crash. A former student of Loyola Jesuit College, Kechi was one of the survivors of the Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 crash on December 10, 2005, at Port Harcourt International Airport, Rivers State. The tragic accident claimed the lives of 106 people, including 60 of her schoolmates.
In a heartfelt post on X, she honored the memory of her classmates and other victims. "Today marks 19 years since the Sosoliso plane crash. I hope the 60 Angels continue to watch over me as I strive to live out God’s purpose. I also hope their loved ones, who have supported me from the beginning, are proud of me and that I can keep giving them reasons to smile," she wrote.
On Facebook, Kechi reflected further on the anniversary, reaffirming her dedication to living a life that honors the 60 Angels and their families. "December 10, 2024, is the 19th anniversary of the Sosoliso crash. It’s a deeply introspective day for me," she shared. She added, "I hope the 60 Angels of Loyola Jesuit College still watch over me as I find my place and pursue the purpose God has for me. This year, I carry their loved ones in my heart the most. I hope they feel proud of me, both in my small and significant achievements. Their unwavering support over these 19 years has been a source of strength for me."
Kechi expressed gratitude to the families of the victims who saw her survival as a symbol of hope during a dark time. "They wrote letters, rooted for me, and prayed endlessly. This is why I dedicate my life to honoring their children, the 60 Angels. I aim to live not just for myself but for everyone lost in that crash. My hope is to keep giving you reasons to smile, knowing this life saved on that day is not lived in vain. Thank you."
