Hurricane Milton hit Florida's Gulf Coast as a Category 3 storm, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and flooding across the state. After making landfall, the storm weakened to a Category 1 as it moved inland early Thursday. Widespread power outages and fatalities have been reported due to the severe weather.

Landfall: The hurricane struck Siesta Key, Florida, at 8:30 p.m. with sustained winds of 120 mph (205 kph).

Path: As of midnight, Milton was near Fort Meade, about 46 miles east of Tampa, with winds of around 100 mph (160 km/h). The storm is expected to continue moving eastward and reach the Atlantic Ocean by late Thursday.

Power outages: By 4 a.m. Thursday, over 3 million homes and businesses were without power, especially in central Gulf Coast areas like Hardee, Sarasota, Hillsborough, and Manatee counties.
