Six people have died, and five others were injured in a road accident in Ibadan, Oyo State. The crash, which took place at Oke Eleshin, Amuloko on Akanran Road in Ona Ara Local Government Area on the morning of Monday, October 14, 2024, involved a trailer carrying tiles, a lorry loaded with soft drinks, and two tricycles.

The five injured individuals were all passengers in the tricycles, including a schoolchild whose mother reportedly died in the incident. Four of the injured were taken to Amuloko City Hospital, with two primary school children treated as out-patients. Two others with more severe injuries were admitted for further care.

The deceased were transported to an undisclosed hospital. According to an Oyo Road Transport Maintenance Agency staff member, the accident was caused by the trailer's brake failure as it descended a slope. An eyewitness explained that the trailer lost control and crushed a tricycle, while a following lorry carrying soft drinks tried to avoid the trailer but ended up hitting another tricycle in the process.

The witness added, "We learned that six people died, and five others were injured. They have all been taken from the scene." In addition to the trailer, lorry, and tricycles, two other cars were damaged in the multiple-vehicle collision. Sympathizers at the scene, who were stopped from setting the vehicles on fire, blamed the drivers (who had fled) and argued that the accident might have been avoided if the trailer driver had veered into a ditch rather than hitting the tricycle.

Raji Wale, the Managing Director of Amuloko City Hospital, confirmed that some victims were brought to his facility. He explained, "Six injured victims arrived, and we treated four. Two children have been treated as out-patients, and two others with serious injuries are currently admitted and receiving care. One of the children was in the tricycle with his mother, who unfortunately died."
