The Federal Government has announced that under the new curriculum set to be introduced for Basic and Senior Secondary Education in Nigeria, every student will be required to graduate with at least two practical skills.

Speaking at the 68th National Council on Education (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday, October 10, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, explained that the new curriculum aims to integrate knowledge, skills, and values, with a particular emphasis on skill acquisition. This approach is intended to equip students with abilities that align with the economy and support a productive life after graduation.

Prof. Mamman noted that the current educational curriculum faces the risk of becoming outdated due to rapid technological advancements affecting various industries, including education.

"A well-designed and effective curriculum is key to sustainable development, quality education, and relevance," he said, emphasizing that this is why the administration prioritizes curriculum development as a central aspect of the education system.

He added that the ministry is working on implementing the President's Education Transformation Agenda, which seeks to overhaul the education sector to improve learning quality, skill development, accessibility, and equity.

Prof. Mamman also reaffirmed the government's responsibility to ensure inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education at all levels for all students. He further stressed the government's commitment to adhering to international agreements and conventions that protect learners, teachers, and educational institutions from harm and ensure the country's education system meets global standards.
