Pep Guardiola has once again emphasized his belief that Lionel Messi is the greatest footballer of all time. Between 2008 and 2012, before Guardiola left the club, Guardiola and Messi shared an extraordinary period of success at Barcelona. During their time together, they won three La Liga titles, two UEFA Champions League trophies, and a treble in 2009, highlighting their remarkable partnership.

In an interview with the Italian TV show Che Tempo, Che Fa, Guardiola spoke about Messi’s lasting influence on football as he nears the end of his career.

"For me, it’s easy to say he’s the greatest of all time. The stars aligned at the right time. Maybe it’s a lack of respect to Pele and Maradona, but to me, Messi is the best," Guardiola said. "I’ve never seen anyone like him in my coaching career. His consistency over 15-20 years is unimaginable. Watching him up close reminds you of Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan. We were fortunate to work with him."

Guardiola also addressed his future beyond the 2024/25 season, as his contract with Manchester City expires in June. While City has offered him a two-year extension, Guardiola remains undecided and plans to make a decision in 2025.

His future at Manchester City could also be influenced by the Premier League's ruling on the club's alleged 115 financial misconduct charges, as City pursue their fifth consecutive league title.
