The Nigerian government has summoned Libya's chargé d'affaires after the Super Eagles faced difficulties at Al Abraq Airport in Libya. Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar confirmed this during a briefing at the State House on Monday.

The Super Eagles were reportedly diverted to Al Abraq Airport, which lacked aviation fuel, leaving them stranded and unable to continue to Benghazi for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.

Tuggar called the situation "unfortunate," explaining, "The Super Eagles flew to Libya for a match, but the plane was diverted to another airport, where unfortunately, there was no aviation fuel."

He added that the Nigerian government is working to refuel the plane and ensure the team's quick return to Nigeria. Tuggar stressed the importance of the matter, stating that the Nigerian mission in Libya was in contact with the team and working to resolve the issue.

"We’ve been in continuous communication with the Libyan chargé d’affaires since last night," Tuggar said. "This issue needs to be resolved quickly, and we’re actively addressing it."

The Super Eagles have since returned to Nigeria and announced they would be boycotting the match against Libya.
