Several houses were destroyed after a group of angry youths attacked the Yoruba community in Jushi Waje, near the Nigeria Army Depot Barracks, Sabon Gari, Zaria, Kaduna State. According to multiple sources, the violence began on Sunday, September 29, and continued until Tuesday, October 1.

The conflict reportedly started when a Hausa boy entered a house in the Yoruba community and was caught. The boy was beaten by members of the community and later died after being taken to the Sarkin's palace. A resident explained that the boy was caught stealing in a Yoruba woman’s house and was even beaten by some Hausa people. He later asked for water, which was given to him by a Hausa woman before he died.

By 7 p.m., groups of Hausa youths began destroying properties belonging to the Yoruba people, burning down houses and cars. One affected resident shared that while their windows were shattered, they were grateful to be alive but had to flee their home. They asked for continued prayers and support.

Another resident reported that the violence resumed on Tuesday morning, with the youths targeting people from other tribes. The resident noted that in the past, thieves caught and taken to the Sarkin’s house were usually released. One resident said they received a warning from a Hausa friend to leave their home, as the youths were planning to kill Yoruba people and other tribes.

The resident also mentioned that a Hausa youth stabbed the owner of Adumas School during the crisis while he was sending students home. Though the attacker was handed over to the police, he was released shortly after. Many residents fled their homes due to ongoing threats.

Attempts to reach the Kaduna command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, for comment were unsuccessful, as calls and messages were not returned at the time of the report.
